About the event:

In this workshop I will show you how you can create letters using a broad edge or flat brush. This technique is great especially for beginners, because it provides a solid foundation for learning brush control and understanding how letters are constructed. While you can use various tools for this method, I will focus on the foam brush to demonstrate the steps. The foam brush is a great choice because it is affordable and easy to find.

Join me for a comprehensive presentation and hands-on demo where I’ll walk you through these concepts step by step. We’ll write together, I’ll answer your questions in real time.

Included:

You’ll get the digital copy of my 50-page comic-inspired Big Fat Letters (VOL1) Workbook, filled with detailed info and clear breakdowns to guide you along the way. It also comes with worksheets and Procreate Brushes.
(Please note: if you already have the workbook you can use the code at the end of the book to get a discount on this workshop!)

What you will learn:

You will learn to control the brush, use different types of strokes to build letters, experiment with those techniques, and create dense compositions. This technique teaches you a lot about the basics of brush control and letter constructions.

What tools you need:

Brush:
  • A broad foam brush (Any size. I recommend a 2.5cm one)

Foam brushes are quite flexible when it comes to the ink and paper.

Ink:
  • (My choice) Watercolor (e.g. liquid watercolor by Ecoline)
  • Writing Ink / Drawing Ink
  • Gouache
  • Acrylic paint (diluted)

Paper:
  • (My choice) Watercolor paper (hot pressed)
  • For practice, I use any smooth paper I can find.
  • Literally any paper—depends on the medium you're working with.

This workshop is for:

  • Newcomers to lettering who want to build strong foundational skills using a clear, tool-based approach
  • Lettering hobbyists and amateurs looking to gain more control, confidence, and understanding of letter construction using broad-edge tools
  • Experienced letterers interested in adding big fat letters to their stylistic range and learn about complex compositions.
  • Designers and illustrators who want to get hands-on with letterform creation to better integrate letters into their work
  • Anyone curious about brush lettering techniques who wants a low-cost, low-barrier way to explore letters using simple, accessible tools
